Next Friday evening, music lovers are in for a treat, as this is when Greenhill's 100-piece orchestra will be performing in the De Valence, Tenby, along with the Tenby Woodwind Quartet, Pembroke Suburban Soul Band and The Tenby String Trio. Miss Angharad Llewelyn will also be singing during the evening and as this young lady sings like an angel, the concert is truly one not to be missed! The services of these dedicated young musicians are being given to help raise much-needed funds for St. Twynnell's Church, which like many other churches in the area, is finding it increasingly hard to make ends meet. Two years ago the orchestra kindly performed at a 'Bless the Show' service in a marquee on Pembroke Showground. This event was so well received that they have been requested to perform once again on September 21. This time the venue has to be the De Valence, as Pembroke did not have a venue large enough to stage the 100-piece orchestra. The Greenhill Orchestra is a 120-strong orchestra with musicians ranging from 11 to 18 years of age. Conducted by Mr. Paul Rapi, their repertoire includes all styles of music, from modern 20th Century to Classical Welsh Nursery Rhymes by Grace Williams. They enter many competitions, both local and national, and came second at the Eisteddfod in May. They also tour and have performed in San Francisco, Paris, Prague, Tuscany and Barcelona. The Tenby String Trio, consists of Hannah Lowe, Fay Brickell and Carys Bromby. They play a range of music and are always busy doing Rotary and Inner Wheel events and weddings. The Tenby Woodwind Quartet was formed by four school friends about a year ago and they have performed at many venues and weddings since. This March, they entered the Dyfed Ensemble competition and won the title. They also represented Pembrokeshire in the National Festival of Music for Youth at Birmingham. Although two of their members are now moving on to university, the quartet will continue to perform together and hopefully continue to be as successful as they have been in the past year. Pembroke  School's Suburban Soul Band began in 2003 with a few musicians and their teacher wanting to set up something different for the students. Now they consist of 12 students from Pembroke School from year 10 upwards. They are in much demand for parties and celebrations and have been very successful in Chevron's Modern Ensemble Class for three consecutive years. Angharad Llewelyn is currently in her final year at Pembroke School and has been singing for many years, both for pleasure and exams. She now sings in many different groups, like County Jazz Ensemble, Three Counties Choir and her school choir. Angharad sings a whole variety of genres from jazz to classical and enthrals her audiences at both charity performances and weddings. Tickets for next Friday's concert are available from The Pembroke Bookshop, Main Street, Pembroke; the De Valence, Tenby; Dales of Tenby and Mr. Edward Morris, Loveston Farm, Merrion, Pembroke, on 01646 661247. Tickets are £5, or £6 at the door. Bar available. Doors open at 7 for 8 pm performance. All proceeds to St. Twynnell's Church. The event is kindly sponsored by Chevron.
