Two talented musical doctors were guest artistes at the Pembrokeshire Counselling Service's annual concert at St. David's Cathedral. Harpist Catherine Burrell heads Pembrokeshire's Doctors-on-Call, and flautist Jo Boughton is a GP at Fishguard Health Centre and a crew member of Fishguard and Goodwick Lifeboat. The concert also featured Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir, with musical director D. Gwyn Griffiths and accompanist Wendy Mary Lewis, and the Haverfordwest Ladies Choir, with musical director Nancy Mann, accompanists Gerald Nicholas and Gwenith Baker, and soloist Rebecca Jones. The concert was sponsored by Barclays, and representatives, Wendy Burge and Faith Wright, of the bank's Welsh Language Unit, presented a cheque for £1,000, bringing the concert's proceeds to £2,000. Eileen Bairstow - who was awarded the MBE for her services to the Counselling Service of which she is a co-founder - welcomed the audience who included the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, Robin Lewis. She explained that the Pembrokeshire Counselling Service helps between 300 to 350 people a year. With each person requiring about six to eight sessions, the Service provides around 2,000 sessions of counselling annually. The concert raised much-needed funds to help pay travelling expenses enabling volunteer counsellors to meet clients around the county. In 2008, the annual concert will move to the Summer and takes place on June 14, at St. David's Cathedral. Joining the Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir will again be Dr. Jo Boughton and Dr. Catherine Burrell. Catherine also conducts medical colleagues, Aesculapius Singers, and this chamber choir, which has raised thousands of pounds for charity, will be an additional attraction.
