A SMALL chapel near Martletwy is set to be transformed into an outpost of the Appalachian Mountains next week courtesy of two outstanding performers from North Carolina.

'Appalachian Roots' - a dynamic mix of traditional song, dance, music and stories - will be performed at Burnett's Hill Chapel on Thursday, November 17, by Ira Bernstein and Riley Baugus.

Both men are steeped in the traditions of the Southern Appalachians. Ira is a fiddle player and also an internationally acclaimed percussive step-dance who is an expert at flatfooting, buckdancing and various other styles.

Riley is a fiddle and banjo player and a natural raconteur with a flair for old time mountain preaching. He was the voice of Pangle in the Academy Award-winning film'Cold Mountain,' and guested on the multi-million selling Robert Plant and Alison Krauss CD 'Raising Sand.'

The concert kicks off at 7.30 pm and tickets are available from the Pembroke Bookshop, tel: (01646) 685144.
