TWO young folk musicians who will be competing against each other for one of the top prizes in this year's BBC Radio Folk Awards are putting aside any rivalry to perform together at Burnett's Hill Chapel, Martletwy, next week.

Sam Sweeney plays an array of instruments in folk big band Bellowhead, while singer, piano-accordionist and step-dancer Hannah James is a key member of the Demon Barber Roadshow. Both acts have been shortlisted for the prestigious Best Live Act award.

While not performing in these supergroups, and other bands such as Kerfuffle and The Remnant Kings, Sam and Hannah have found the time to forge a highly successful musical partnership as a duo. Last year they released their first album 'Catches and Glees' to great acclaim, and they are in constant demand on the folk festival circuit.

"Not only are they two very fine young musicians, but Hannah is also a virtuoso step-dancer in the north of England tradition and we are really looking forward to seeing her dance in the intimate setting of Burnett's Hill," said chapel trustee Brian Jacques.

The concert is on Thursday, January 20, at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from the Pembroke Bookshop.
