Carew Castle has witnessed many historical events over the centuries, but, on the whole, Civil War excepted, events have been mostly of a peaceful nature.
But all is about to change! Prepare for an evening of murder, mystery, and mayhem, on Friday, July 15, when Harvey’s Mysteries invite you to assist them in solving a most heinous crime. Taking more than a few liberties with the historical background, and the name of Good Sir John Parrot, in particular, enter a world where Queen Elizabeth I is planning a great progress through West Wales. Enter a world where plots, rumours and counter-plots run rife in matters concerning the Scottish Queen, not to mention a few rumours running rife locally concerning illegal contraband entering the county through its numerous ports and harbours.
Good Sir John’s household is cast into disarray when a body is discovered on the eve of the masked ball, made all the more discomfiting when guests include such illustrious personages as the French Ambassador, and, wealthiest woman in the land, Bess of Hardwicke.
If you fancy yourself as a sleuth, (or you just fancy yourself in Elizabethan costume), join the assembled company by the log fire in the Lesser Hall, and get those little grey cells working!
Authentic period music will be provided by La Volta, acclaimed Pembrokeshire minstrels. There will be a buffet, a bar, and a lot of laughter.
Doors open 7 for 7.30. Price, including buffet, £18 adult/concession £16 child (not suitable under 12s), booking essential, 01646 651782. Fancy dress optional, or wear a mask.
• Tenby Murder Mysteries was started over 20 years ago by Mike Thorne, and was taken over by Hilary and Len Harvey when he moved out of the area. Sadly, both Hilary and Len have since died, and the group have re-named themselves Harvey’s Mysteries in their memory.
