In 2023, 30.6% of children in Wales are living in poverty. Four community-spirited women from Carmarthenshire have got together to try and change this.

The four mums have formed an Action Squad to support and fundraise for Action for Children’s family support services.

Inspired by the work the service does and high child poverty rates in the county, Kirsty Williams (Kirsty Williams Mortgage Solutions), Sarah Maclean (Teulu Mortgages) Aimee Taffetsauffer (Cartref Estates) and Lauren Edwards (Pass the Keys Carmarthenshire) are putting on a range of fundraising events including a prestigious black tie dinner dance at Parc y Scarlets on Thursday, October 19.

Kirsty’s daughter, Grace (8), is also passionate about supporting Carmarthenshire families and has already raised over £1,000 from making bracelets and will donate the money to children from the service for Christmas.

As four mothers, all four mums wanted to support a charity which would help to protect children and offer support to families across Carmarthenshire.

In 2023, 30.6% of children in Wales are living in poverty. To the squad, as mothers, that is a truly devastating statistic. They are acutely aware that many families are struggling to afford the basics like food and clothes, and they can’t help but empathise with the struggles of those parents. They live and work in Carmarthenshire and each of us have always had a natural drive to give back to our local community.

They knew they needed to pool together our skills and motivation to help arrange an event which will make a difference to families in the community, as well as raising vital awareness of the great work that Action for Children do.

“Children are the future and we are so excited to be supporting Action for Children in enabling them to continue to protect and support children and give them the voice that they deserve,” they said.
