Kilgetty's own Mr. and Mrs. Christmas, Peter and Audrey Thomas, have made a sparkling presentation to charity this week. On Tuesday, they presented cheques for a magnificent £7,120 each to the Paul Sartori Foundation and the Chemotheraphy Day Unit at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, as a result of money collected at their spectacularly decorated festive home at 1 St. Mary's Place. As already reported, Peter and Audrey have now decided to retire, and what a way this was to end, by raising a staggering £14,240. The Paul Sartori Foundation was chosen because it was the first good cause the couple supported when they started collecting for charity in 2000, while the Chemotherapy Day Unit is particularly close to the hearts of the local community, as not only has Peter and Audrey's daughter Donna Longhurst been treated at the ward, but also a number of other Kilgetty residents. Peter and Audrey have been decorating their house in all its festive glory for 25 years, since when their neighbours have joined in too. For the last seven years, they have been raising money for charity, and this year's amount now takes the overall total to an amazing £67,240. Winners of the best decorated house in Britain as voted by GMTV viewers in 2004, sadly Peter and Audrey have now decided to retire from putting on their dazzling Yuletide show. At this week's presentation, held at the Begelly Arms, the cheque for the Chemotherapy Day Unit was received by unit sisters Suzann Hughes and Tracey Thomas, while Joan Mathias, trustee, and Kemsley Mathias, volunteer, picked up the Paul Sartori Foundation donation. "Both recipients were absolutely ecstatic and were overwhelmed by the totals," said Audrey. "It really was a fantastic amount for our last year and we cannot thank everyone enough for giving so generously." Also in attendance was Peter and Audrey's daughter, Donna, who with sponsorship from K. P. Thomas, helped Father Christmas reply to a record- breaking 1,900 letters posted by children in his special post-box, together with Dai 'The Butcher' and Ann Thomas, of Bridge Stores, and Alan and Janet Holt, of Bumper to Bumper, who kindly sponsored the sweets handed out by Father Christmas during his two seasonal visits.
