Local MP Nick Ainger has published the details of his parliamentary allowance details for the past four years on his website http://www.nickainger.co.uk">www.nickainger.co.uk.
"People are rightly furious with those MPs who have abused and milked the system for their own gain.
"We need radical action quickly to reform the allowance system so that only reasonable claims are paid for expenses incurred in staying in London and running constituency offices. Only then will people start to trust politicians again.
"Sir Christopher Kelly's Committee on Standards in Public Life will be reporting later in the year on MPs' allowances. But urgent action is needed now and the interim measures announced are the right way forward.
"MPs will be banned from switching second home designation, monthly mortgage interest payments will be capped at £1,250 and only council tax, utility bills and insurance will be claimable. If MPs have claimed second home allowance, then capital gains tax should be paid on that property when sold.
"There is now no alternative to an independent standards authority overseeing MPs and Lords' pay and allowances. Parliament has failed to self-regulate effectively, and outside objective and independent scrutiny is the way to restore the public's confidence in parliament.
"The whole of parliament has been damaged by these revelations and openness and transparency will help restore its reputation. By publishing my own details, the people I have the privilege to represent will be able to see what I have claimed and how I compare with the other 645 MPs.
"Over the four years, in addition to mortgage interest, council tax and utilities etc at the London flat, I have been allowed £3,075 for furniture, £2,000 to replace a 30-year-old leaking bathroom suite and £2,216 for the replacement of three corroded metal window frames.
"I have been in the lowest quarter of MPs for claims in each of the four years," concluded Mr. Ainger
