Pembrokeshire people from the NHS Trust, Community Health Council, local government and independent and charitable sectors met for the first time last week to try to set new standards for moving and handling practices in the county. The aim of the meeting was to explore new ways of working together to help standardise moving and handling practices in Pembrokeshire. This will ensure a consistent approach, reducing inequalities and leading to more effective use of resources. The initiative has been welcomed by chief officer for Pembrokeshire Community Health Council, Ashley Warlow, who has offered support by nominating Mrs. Beryl Thomas-Cleaver, a member of their executive committee, as chairperson. Said spokesperson Mike Brown:" This is a great initiative and shows how here in Pembrokeshire we can work together to deliver the best possible care for our patients and clients." One of the main benefits of a standardised approach is that patients would be moved and handled in a safe, secure and comfortable way, reflecting best practice, regardless of the care provider or patient environment. It would also ensure a consistent approach to the training provision and assessment process, ensuring both employers and employees comply with relevant legislative requirement and standards. The meeting was a great success and subgroups were formed to work on a variety of subjects within the field. The next meeting of the Pembrokeshire Moving and Handling Forum will be held on Wednesday, February 20, from 1.30 - 4.30 pm at Langton Hall, Scleddau, near Fishguard.
