Dyfed Powys Police are urging motorists across Pembrokeshire to lock their vehicles when they leave them unattended and to remove any valuables from display.
The call comes after a spate of thefts from insecure unattended vehicles throughout the county in recent weeks.
Chief Inspector Alan Millichip, said: "Leaving your vehicle unlocked and unattended with valuables on display is an open invitation to criminals and opportunist thieves.
"Some people are adopting a haphazard approach to the security of their motor vehicles and the belongings they leave inside them.
"Our advice is simple - if you are leaving your vehicle unattended, even if it's just for a couple of minutes, then ensure all windows and sun roofs are secure, and that all doors and the boot are locked. All items, especially any valuables, should be removed from display and securely locked in the boot or removed from the vehicle altogether and kept with you.
"Taking these common sense steps will minimise the chances of falling victim to criminals, in particular opportunist thieves.
"People should be reassured that thefts from vehicles are not a regular occurrence in Pembrokeshire.
"However, those who currently leave their vehicles insecure need to follow our advice in order to take greater care of their property."
