Dyfed Powys Police in connection with the Safety Camera Partnership have been out in force over the last two weekends educating and enforcing indiscriminate riding by a minority of motorcyclists - particularly in Carmarthenshire and Powys. Sixteen motorcyclists were found to be speeding within the region and police officers caught 10 bikers in Carmarthenshire, nine of whom were travelling in excess of 100 mph. In Powys, the Safety Camera Partnership detected six with speeds up to 100 mph. All offenders will be issued with a summons to attend court.

Anti-social use of motorcycles will see riders issued with a warning under Section 59 and risk having their bikes seized.

Chief Inspector Phil Davies, Operations Dept, said: "It is beyond words that motorcycle users would put themselves, their pillion riders and other road users at enormous risk of serious injury or being killed! "We will not tolerate the misuse of the road network within our force area and people must be able to feel that they can travel on our roads safely without fear of being harmed or experiencing anti-social behaviour by what is a small minority of bikers. We will continue to target this particular group and maximise enforcement efforts."

Five motorcycle users have lost their lives already in the Dyfed Powys area since the beginning of the year, with 18 losing their lives last year. Dyfed Powys Police is committed to educating and engaging with bikers, as well as ensuring a strategic level of enforcement utilising the most advanced technology.
