Local motorcycle racer Adam Barclay has just returned from the Isle of Man after a successful fortnight's competition in the Manx Grand Prix. Adam, a 37-year-old self-employed carpenter from Saundersfoot, who now resides in Pembroke Dock, has participated in the Manx GP for the past five years and is becoming a competent force on the demanding island circuit. Since his first grand prix in 2002, he has collected a silver replica for every race he has competed in. Until this year, Adam was privately funded. However, during the winter months, he attracted sponsorship from The Hallett Aviation Racing Team. During practice week, Adam was one of the top riders on the island course in both junior and senior classes. In fact, at the end of practice, Adam was the fastest rider on the island in the senior class, posting a personal lap record of 116.4mph. On Wednesday, August 29, Adam competed in the Junior Grand Prix and took his Hallett Aviation Suzuki GSX-R 600 to fifth place with an average race speed of 114.6mph, 22 seconds ahead of the sixth place rider, James McCullugh. On Friday, he was favourite to take the honours in the Senior Grand Prix and was a hot tip by locals on the island, including the local media. Unfortunately, the race was abandoned due to adverse weather conditions on the mountain and, with a distinct lack of marshals on the island this year, the race was subsequently cancelled.
