The West South Wales Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club are on their bikes again for their flagship event. It's the 49th Welsh National Saundersfoot Assembly and it is being held this weekend, September 17, 18, 19. All entrants will be using two or three wheelers made before December 31, 1972. It is a time trial event and the riders choose 20 or 24 mph and have control checkpoints en-route. Today (Friday), there will be an informal pre-event gathering at the Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club, from 8 pm. Tomorrow (Saturday), they will be on Saundersfoot Harbour from 8.30 am and riders will be signing on from 9 am. The first two vehicles will leave Saundersfoot at 10 am and then in pairs at minute intervals until they have all left the Harbour. The oldest and slowest vehicles will leave first on a route of 80 plus miles, heading across the county to the Llwyngwair Manor Hotel, Newport, for lunch and one-and-a-half hour stop. The vehicles are expected back at Saundersfoot from 3.30 pm onwards, but they may not stop long. The oldest is a 1911 Triumph, Model H, 550cc, single speed, belt drive, with a nominated speed of 20mph, while the smallest is an N.S.U. two-speed moped 49cc, 1959, which has a nominated speed also of 20mph. On Sunday, they will be on the Harbour from 10 am until 11.45 am for a static display, before a social run of 50 miles.
