MOTHER and daughter Carol Brinton Thomas and Rebecca Brinton are currently holding their third exhibition of their work at Colby Gallery, Amroth.
During the last year, their work has gone through an interesting development. Neither had observed the other's work and so it was a very pleasant surprise for each of them, as it will be for the viewer, to see the transformation their styles has taken.
Rebecca has been primarily influenced by the human condition - that is, she feels very strong emotions at what is happening around her - both at home and in the world at large. The trauma of a world event viewed on the news or a friend's dilemma, or the joy of happiness of the people around her, will effect her strongly and so she expresses these feelings in a piece of work, often in oil pain,t as this medium will flow and move, giving a free expression to the emotions within.
Much of this has been influenced by her knowledge of symbolism in the work of the Renaissance artists and from the 15th to the 19th century European masters.
One may ask why paint emotions - because they and their memories are as beautiful and memorable as any view, place or occasion.
Carol's work is also undergoing change. Always fascinated by the views of Pembrokeshire, her eyes have travelled up to the skies and so many paintings in this exhibition concentrate on the ever-changing moods of our beautiful skies.
Again much of this recent work is in oil paint for its vibrancy and depth of brilliant colour. Also, these pictures are large - indeed, sometimes the canvass is not large enough and so the pictures consist of two or three canvasses designed to hang side by side.
Carol's pottery has undergone change, too, as again she is looking up, this time to our magnificent cliffs. These cliff pots are also on view at the Colby Gallery.
The exhibition opened on Easter Monday and runs until April 25.
