COLBY Woodland Gardens is delighted that artists Carol Brinton-Thomas and daughter Rebecca Brinton have agreed again this year to open the new season of exhibitions in the Small Gallery.

In the 12 months since they last exhibited at Colby both artists have been busy painting new and interesting pieces of work for exhibitions and commissions in Pembrokeshire and beyond.

To date, most of Carol's work has been in watercolour where she depicts the ever-changing moods of the Pembrokeshire land and sea scapes, but in the last year she has attended several workshops and classes in order to widen her knowledge of techniques and styles.

Under the tutelage of Bim and Arthur Giardelli, Graham Hadlow, Yvonne Mannings, Phillip Harries, and of course, daughter Rebecca, she has developed a basic understanding of the application of oil paint, and has executed several small pictures in the medium.

Also, over the last 12 months, Carol has been running pottery classes in her own home, where students learn several ways of throwing, hand-building and glazing, creating many unusual items which give great pleasure to all.

In the midst of this busy schedule she has continued to produce her own distinctive pottery with the daffodil or village scene, also on sale at Colby Gallery and at other craft outlets throughout the county.

Many readers will recall Rebecca Brinton as one of the participants in the TV series 'Watercolour Challenge,' when she painted Carew Castle, which incidentally, was sold during her last season's exhibition at Colby.

Having studied primarily in fashion/textiles at Carmarthen Art College, her yearning for knowledge has continued with a number of tutors. Present mentor is Arthur Giardelli, whose influence is apparent in her work, along with many theories from 'the masters.'

Rebecca has been developing her work in watercolours, and with her oil painting has extended her style in the application of the medium to show an insight into the impressionist's view in the use of light, tone and movement.

Rebecca holds art classes at Tenby Community Education Centre in oil painting, mixed media and life drawing where she encourages students to look deeply into the subject and to experiment with a variety of ways of applying colour and form to their work.

'Mother and Daughter' runs from April 1 to 18 inclusive. Gardens and Gallery are open daily, 10 am - 5 pm. A special 'two for one' admission to the gardens is offered on production of this article.
