Tenby town councillors have deferred making a decision on an application for a multi-million pound scheme for the redevelopment of a prominent site in the town, feeling that viewing of the plans warranted a special meeting.

Councillors were due to discuss the plans for an ambitious residential, retail and leisure proposal which incorporates not only the former five-storey Royal Gatehouse Hotel, but also the adjoining Royal Playhouse Cinema and nearby Royal Lion Hotel, during their meeting on Tuesday night, but many felt that they should be considered at a separate meeting.

"There's an awful lot to go through here and I don't think that it's fair to put it on the table for councillors, who have maybe been away, including myself, and not had chance to view the plans properly, just to muddle through them without having a proper, full look at the application," said Mayor, Clr. Mrs Sue Lane.

The plans, which also include a new application for the former Delphi Hotel site on South Parade, have been submitted to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

"It's a very big project on a hugely important site and of utmost importance to the town, so I feel it would be wise to discuss it at a special meeting next week," added the Mayor, encouraging councillors to come into the council offices to view the plans ahead of the meeting which will be held next Tuesday evening.

Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans agreed and was pleased that the plans were finally in front of councillors.

"How glad we are to see things moving on; it's wonderful to see such progress finally being made on this important site," she remarked.
