Brewers from across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire recently attended the locality’s first brewing forum organised by Pembrokeshire College. The sector has seen considerable growth over the last few years and it is being recognised as an important growth area for Wales.

Recognising this, Pembrokeshire College invited several guest speakers including; Aber Instruments whose clients are some of the world’s leading brewing giants, Food Centre Wales and one of Wales’ oldest breweries - Buckley Brewery.

Pembrokeshire is particularly lucky to have many fine quality breweries from instantly recognisable and award-winning brands such as the Bluestone Brewery and Caffle. Tenby Harbour, Da Mhile, Castle Gate, Pembrokeshire Cider Company and Tenby Brewing Company also attended .

We don’t usually come together, so this was a great opportunity to meet fellow brewers and share some of our experiences - I can’t wait for the next one!” said Rob Faulkner, Tenby Brewing Company.

“The brewing industry is an exciting and growing sector in west Wales - we want to support these local enterprises by offering a platform for them to network and share best practice, and for us to ascertain exactly what the sector requires to aid further growth,” said Hayley Williams, project manager at Pembrokeshire College.

In light of sector investment in Pembrokeshire via the Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone project (part of the £1.3 billion Swansea Bay City Deal), the college is actively engaging with schools to raise awareness of careers in food and drink manufacturing and is working with businesses to ensure that they have the necessary skills to deliver the City Deal proposal for Pembrokeshire. Marine Engineering and Marine Tourism are also benefiting from the project as these sectors will generate further opportunities over the coming years.
