Plans to try and reduce the speed of traffic through a busy Pembrokeshire road on the outskirts of Saundersfoot and Tenby are being considered.

At the recent meeting of East Williamston Community Council, county councillor for the ward Cllr Jacob Williams sought the views from members on a resident's suggestion that a mini roundabout on the A478, similar to those which had been placed on this road's junctions with Templebar Road and Station Road in Pentlepoir, could be installed at the end of Valley Road, Wooden.

As part of the discussions, Cllr Williams also sought views on the idea of situating a ramp on the A478 northbound entrance to the Templebar Road mini roundabout, with the aim of reducing the speed of traffic joining from the Tenby direction, which he stated had not seen any noticeable corresponding decrease following the 20mph speed limit downgrade for the stretch of road.

20mph digital alert warning signs were introduced on both sides of the Pentlepoir road when the Welsh Government brought in the new default speed limit.

Back in 2020, Pembrokeshire County Council introduced road safety improvements through the village, with the aim to reduce speeding, though many have stated that the measures haven’t made a difference.
