Tenby will see additional police power on its streets over the summer months, members of the town council were told this week. Inspector Mark McSweeney and PCSO Andrew Griffiths met with councillors ahead of their meeting on Tuesday night, to give an update on policing issues going into the busy holiday season. "There were lots of visitors to Tenby last weekend and additional officers were on patrol over Saturday and Sunday, with four section 27 notices issued to identify problematic individuals, which acts as an early preventive tool," said Insp McSweeney. "The low crime figures against the volume of people in Tenby, means that we have made a very pleasing start to the year, "Whilst we want to create an atmosphere where more boisterous groups are welcome in the town, we certainly want to look after the families, so with more stag and hen parties coming earlier on in the day, we'll be looking to put more officers on foot during this time, as Tenby currently might be a little light on police visibility in the daytime," he continued. Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham said it would be useful if shopkeepers and business owners had access to direct numbers to police officers, like licensees have, so they could report any incidents on the streets they were situated. Insp McSweeney told members that the police had held numerous meetings with the organisations that put on the Summer Spectaculars down the harbour, and he felt that there would be a tighter approach this summer, with the police working alongside these committees. "It's nice to hear that policing in Tenby is working - everyone is pleased with that," remarked the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
