October 5 sees the start of the ninth series of annual master-classes and workshops for voice and piano to be taken by the senior repetiteur and maestro pianist at the Romanian State Opera in Bucharest - Luminita Berariu, who returns to West Wales to her enthusiastic groups of regular participants, many of whom have written glowingly of her very special techniques of tuition and of how much their music-making has been enriched by attending. The master-classes are free and open to all. They are made possible by support from the Arts Council of Wales and this year the programme has been further extended, starting on Friday, October 5, in Tenby, at 7 pm. Rhos y Gilwen is the second venue, with two master-classes on Sunday, October 7: for singers starting at 10.30 am and for pianists in the afternoon. Carmarthen is next on Wednesday, October 10, at the English Congregational Chapel, Lammas Street, with members of the Carmarthen Operatic Society at 7.30 pm. Haverfordwest follows on Friday, October 12, at 7.30 pm, with an open session for voice at the Prendergast Infants School, Stokes Avenue and on Sunday, October 14, at the same venue there will be workshops, starting at 2.30 pm, with the Haverfordwest Operatic Society, working on their new production. Members of the public will be welcome as observers. The series concludes with a workshop for the Dyfed Choir on Tuesday, October 16, at the Bloomfield Centre in Narberth, at 7.30 pm. Again - public welcome. The master-classes are open to anyone of any age wanting to improve their technique. However, places are limited - first come, first served. For further details, ring Friends of the Classics on 01834 842523. These sessions are of great interest and help to observers who are not enrolled to sing or play; anyone who is a music enthusiast will be welcome and will be assured of a stimulating, instructive and entertaining experience.
