Tenby Male Choir chorister Paul Varallo managed to complete the Cardiff Half Marathon again raising funds for Cancer Research Wales.
Chairman David Blackmore recently presented Paul with a cheque for £1,100. The money was raised from bucket collections by Paul and Town Crier Jim Cornwell, after Tenby Male Choir concerts where Paul was soloist, and was topped up from choir funds.
People gave very generously once they had heard Paul’s story. One American woman put a $100 bill in the bucket. Paul got back into running through Parkrun at Colby Woodland Gardens after recovering from stage 3 bowel cancer in 2012. In all Paul managed to raise £1,910 this year.
Cancer Research Wales is Wales’ only independent cancer charity that focuses purely on world-class scientific research to help tackle Wales’ cancer priorities. Paul was saved through the work of the NHS supported by Cancer Research and so he will be back on the streets again next year to try and raise more funds for this essential work.
