Monkton Priory Community Priory School Holiday Club has welcomed its 60th child through the doors as it continues to offer daily activity sessions thanks to support from Valero, The Co-operative and Pembrokeshire Communities First.
So far this year, the children have been on trips to the cinema, Folly Farm and the Dinosaur Park; they are learning to dance and act; and they will also be having fun on the beach, funded with a donation of £1,500 from Valero with packed lunches from nearby The Co-operative Food store worth £350.
Alison Davies, the teacher at the school which runs the Holiday Club, said: "A big thank you to Valero and The Co-operative. Without them, the holiday club would not be possible. The funding from Valero has allowed us to employ local companies such as Kelly Williams School of Dance and JC Theatre Company to entertain the children and provide them with new fun experiences, and has also given us the opportunity to take children out of Monkton on trips."
William James, public affairs assistant for Valero, said: "The Monkton Priory Holiday Club is a fantastic project that Valero are delighted to be able to support. Valero are dedicated to helping young people in our local communities, and the activities the holiday club provides over the summer are a wonderful example of that commitment."
Brian Lavender, member of The Co-operative Group's West Wales Area Committee, said: "The holiday club provides such a great service to the local community providing children with a fantastic program of activities, while offering parents some well-earned respite at the same time. We were delighted to fund the packed lunches and hope the children enjoyed tucking into their Co-operative sandwiches and fruit while out and about on the trips."
Monkton Priory Holiday Club has been running successfully for several years with up to 60 children from the school attending the club over four weeks.
The aim of the holiday club is to provide children from Monkton with a wide range of free play opportunities and creative and stimulating activities.
This includes trips to local beaches and places of interest which are experiences that the children might not otherwise have. The children really enjoy the activities and the opportunity to be with their friends in what can sometimes feel like a long holiday. The club also provides employment for local people as well as volunteering opportunities.
