Monkton Young People First held a 'low carbon cook-off' at the Old Priory Inn in Monkton recently, as part of Climate Change Week.
Two teams from the community competed to come up with the tastiest and most environmentally friendly dish in front of a local audience who were invited to taste the food and vote for the winners.
One team created a delicious Chicken with Savoury Rice dish and the other team produced a yummy Bubble and Squeak with bacon and egg.
Most of the food came from local producers and the vegetables came straight from a local farm!
The event was supported by Pembrokeshire Communities First and hosted by Eco Centre Wales who developed the 'low carbon cook-off' idea.
The aim of the 'low carbon cook-off' is to engage with people about sustainable food choices in a fun, non preaching way.
The idea is influenced by the popular cooking shows Masterchef and Ready Steady Cook, but with a green twist.
The prize winning 'low carbon cook-off' project looks at the environmental impacts of our food choices in a fun and engaging way: with a good dollop of healthy competition.
Since its inception in April 2011, the project has featured at food festivals and community events locally and across Wales.
The project has been funded by Environment Wales and the Welsh Government.
Monkton Young People First and the Old Priory Community Project run events for the community all year round.
