Steffan John, Welsh Liberal Democrat Prospective Assembly Candidate for Mid and West Wales, has welcomed the special grant which provides £4.76 million to help rural schools.

Pembrokeshire will receive £263,448 to help preserve small schools.

This money is for innovation and to assist local authorities in federating, clustering and taking other steps to secure small schools. It will help to develop their uses as community assets for other forms of learning and community activity outside of school hours.

Steffan John said: "As a direct result of the Welsh Liberal Democrats being in Government, communities in Pembrokeshire will have over quarter-of-a-million pounds to sustain their small schools."

He continued: "Everyone accepts the social, economic and cultural value of small schools. They are often one of the vehicles to retain both the language and culture. This is great news for Pembrokeshire."
