Saundersfoot travelled to Carew II on Saturday in search of a victory over closely placed rivals in an attempt to aid their promotion hopes.

Batting first on a hard track, Carew lost veteran opener Gerald Hicks with the third delivery from Dan Caine.

Ben Evans and M. Schofield added a 50-run partnership, before Evans was bowled for 23 by Dicky Parcell.

Jeremy Griffiths with a gritty 79 was the top scorer for Carew and their innings closed on 178 for 9, with Dan Caine capturing 3 for 46.

Saundersfoot's reply also began by losing an early wicket, but a fine half century from Barry Phillips helped repair the damage. Another half century from Steve Cook put them into a position to win the game, but resolute bowling from Carew meant that they had to settle for the draw as they finished 15 runs short of a much-needed victory.

This weekend sees Saundersfoot entertaining league leaders Narberth at home.

Saundersfoot Seconds elected to bat on winning the toss against Herbrandston IIs. They lost opener James Thomas early on with the score on three, but R. Stanford (20) and Anthony Griffiths (45) added 48 runs before Stanford was bowled by B. Hawkins.

John Broome (16) joined Griffiths at the wicket and took the score to 81 before falling to Hawkins.

From then on, the only Saundersfoot batsman to reach double figures was Chris Jones (13) and the innings closed after 30 overs with the score on 140, with the most successful bowler being Jackie Williams with 4 for 19.

Joe Duffy claimed a wicket for Saundersfoot in the second over, bowling opener S. Mills for nought. The next three batsmen departed cheaply and Saundersfoot looked to be in a good position, but opener D. Scholfield steadied the ship with a dour 46 runs in 36 overs, and the match was won for Herbrandston by M. O'Hara with a hard struck 50 not out, coming in at number six.

Joe Duffy was the pick of the Saundersfoot bowlers, finishing with 3 for 27.

Saundersfoot Under 16s travelled to Whitland on Sunday with a depleted team, fearing the worst against a strong Whitland side with England, Wales and West Wales caps amongst their line-up

Batting first, Whitland amassed an impressive 131 for 5 in their 20 overs, with all of the six batsmen reaching double figures and top scorers being Dion Thomas and Eddie John with 35 and 30, respectively.

James Phillips finished with 2 for 24 from his allotted overs.

Needing to score at over six runs on over, Saundersfoot began with a maiden, but then Dan Caine took command, scoring 19 off the second over. He didn't stop there and proceeded to punish all the Whitland bowlers, with the exception of Rhidian Harries. He struck the ball to all parts of the boundary in a magnificent display of batting.

He was aided in no small part by James Thomas (15) and with the first wicket falling at 90 in the 13th over, Saundersfoot were in sight of victory.

It was fitting that the winning runs were hit by Dan Caine, completing a maiden century and remaining undefeated on 104, which contained no fewer than five 6s and twelve 4s.

He was given a standing ovation from the crowd after an enjoyable game.
