Pembroke Ladies hockey tame travelled to Fishguard last weekend to play Fishguard Ladies on their home pitch.

After fending off phone calls from players dropping like flies, Pembroke still expected to field a full side upon arrival at Fishguard. This was not the case, with only nine players at pitch-side, so coach Julia Griffiths had to be drafted in out of retirement and Catherine Scourfield at the last minute.

Fishguard started very well, immediately placing Pembroke's defence under extreme pressure and had it not been for excellent defending and poor finishing by the home forwards, then the visitors would have been dead and buried at half-time!

The arrival of Jackie Cadogan 10 minutes before the interval was a welcome relief and meant that Pembroke could reorganise, which resulted in a rare attack into the Fishguard '".

Fishguard started the second half as they had the first, but this time Pembroke hit them on the break and from a short corner Sara Lunn scored with an excellent strike to give her side the lead, totally against the run of play.

Fishguard continued to attack, but could not get an equaliser, which resulted in Pembroke taking all three points.

Pembroke can count themselves very luck as this was a game Fishguard really should have won. Credit, however, must go to every player in the Pembroke side, who worked so hard to secure these three points.

Team: Victoria Scourfield, Brenda Scourfield, Julia Griffiths, Sophie John, Laura Scott, Jackie Cadogan, Sarah Lunn, Catherine Owen, Hannah Thomas, Catherine Scourfield, Carys Jones.

UNDER 18s

Pembroke Under 18s played Tenby Under 18's in their first league fixture of the season.

Pembroke started strongly and had Tenby pinned in their own half for the first 20 minutes, but excellent goalkeeping and defending kept the score blank.

Tenby started to gain in confidence, while Pembroke went to sleep, which resulted in a 10-minute purple patch when Tenby scored twice.

Pembroke continued to work hard, but it was Tenby who showed the greater determination and desire to gain possession, only for excellent defending by Sophie John and saves by goalkeeper Sasha Erasmus to prevent them from increasing their lead.

Pembroke could not break the deadlock and Tenby went on to secure all three points.

Pembroke play an excellent Haverfordwest side this Sunday and cannot afford but to give 100 per cent throughout if they want to get something from it.

Team: Sasha Erasmus, Sophie John, Emily Rogers, Chloe Lloyd, Harriet Newman, Kate Roberts, Hayley Ferrier, Allys Silcox, Libby Roberts, Jessica Lawrence, Zoe Lloyd.
