Pembrokeshire played three matches in Ireland last week, winning one and losing the other two. The first fixture was against Railway Union and the County team scored 193 for 9 in this 40 over contest.

Phil Kirkby (Haverfordwest), batting at number seven, hit 11 fours and four 6s in an accomplished innings of 90, supported by skipper Karl Rhead with 34 and opener Julian Arthur with 15.

For the Irish team, paceman Dave Carroll took 3 for 13 and spinner George Lambert 3 for 18.

The strong Railway Union side won by eight wickets with four overs to spare. South African John Anderson dominated their innings with a quality knock of 108 not out, supported by Brian Williams, who scored 64 before being bowled by Greg Miller (Neyland). Rob Williams (Lawrenny) picked up the other wicket for Pembrokeshire.

The second fixture was against North Whitlow, with each team batting for 35 overs. North Whitlow were bundled out for 106. Greg Miller took 4 for 23, Carew captain Rob Scourfield 3 for 10, with other wickets falling to Damian Arthur (Cresselly) and Paul Davies (Whitland). In reply, the Pembrokeshire team raced to 110 for 4. Paul Davies led the victory chase with 27, supported by Andrew Miller (Neyland) with 22, Damian Arthur with 21 and skipper Karl Rhead with 20 not out.

The third fixture should have been against Pembrokeshire County. Unfortunately their Pembrokeshire namesakes were forced to cancel the fixture and at short notice another fixture was arranged against Railway Union.

The match was played over 25 overs per team as the visitors were travelling back to Pembrokeshire the same day.

Pembrokeshire reached a total 129 for 7. Julian Arthur scored a quick 23, Andrew Miller 19 not out, Darren Brick (Llangwm) 18 and Damian Arthur 15. Greg Miller guested for the Railway Union team and picked up 3for 20.

The Railway Union team won by four wickets with four overs left with a total of 132 for 6. John Anderson was again in the runs with 73 not out, including a six and 12 fours. Local cricketers were amongst the wicket-takers, with Damian Arthur taking 3 for 33 and Rob Williams 2 for 16.
