This was a rearranged Division One West league match played last Wednesday, April 16, at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn. Unfortunately, Bonymaen could not field any front row subs, so the game was played with uncontested scrums. Whitland found this difficult in the first half and were down by 13 points to 10 at the break, but they totally dominated the second half, running in three tries for a bonus point win. Whitland's first half points all came from outside- half Emyr Williams with a try, conversion and penalty, while winger Paul Warlow scored Bonymaen's try, with outside-half Richard Cunnisse adding the conversion and also kicking tgwo penalties. In the second half, Whitland's try scorers were flanker Ryan Michael and both wingers, Cristiaan Roets and Dion Thomas, with Emyr Williams taking his points total to 20 by adding two conversions and two penalties. The following evening, Whitland Youth played their last league match of the season and won it in style. It meant that their 100 per cent record for the season remained intact, winning all 20 of their matches and totally dominating all aspects of this local derby, scoring six tries in the process. Whitland scored a total of 667 in the season, with an average of 34 points per game, and only had 95 points scored against at an average of less than a try per game - what an achievement. Well played boys and congratulations to all the coaching staff. Whitland led 14 points to three at half-time, with winger Jonny Morgan crossing for two tries, which were converted by centre James Stephenson. Narberth's only reply came from a Tom Richards penalty. In the second half, Whitland added a further four tries, two by winger Iestyn Scourfield, another for Jonny Morgan, his third, and one by centre James Stephenson, who also added three conversions. Narberth's consolation try was scored by John Edwards, with Tom Richards adding the conversion. The sides meet again tonight (Friday) in the final of the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup, to be played at Tenby RFC, with a 7 pm kick-off.
Whitland 2nd XV nil Llandovery 2nd XV 11 pts.
After losing to them twice in the league, Whitland put up a spirited performance against Llandovery in the final of the Polypipe Civils Challenge Cup on Friday, but their opponents again proved too strong. In fact, as well as winning the cup, Llandovery also won all their league matches, but only managed to cross Whitland's line the once. In the first half of the final played at Llangennech RFC, a penalty by fullback Calvin Davies after eight minutess was all that seperated the two teams at half-time. Scrapping for every point to climb out of the relegation battle, Dunvant wanted this game more than Whitland and got their just rewards. Whitland took the lead after hooker Mark Jones scored an unconverted try 14 minutes into the game. Dunvant replied with two late first half tries, one after 38 minutes and the second in injury time. They were scored by fullback Mitchell Ford and number Rorri Gallagher and with outside-half Andrew Williams adding both conversions, it gave Dunvant a useful 14 points to five lead at the interval. In the second half, Whitland, playing with the strong wind, failed to turn pressure into points and two late penalties by Williams gave Dunvant the win by 20 points to five.
