Sir,
My letter published on Friday, February 20, has brought forth responses from Ms. Gwyther and Mrs. Neate.
Neither, unfortunately, addresses the main point being made, which was political spin.
As far as I am aware, Ms. Gwyther has spent every walking moment of the recent past pursuing the placing of beds in the new Tenby unit; I have not suggested otherwise. Neither have I indicated that she should, in her words, 'spit the dummy'.
Having, however, seen her best endeavours come to nought, a reaction of 'I am disappointed' or if that is too politically bold 'my constituents are disappointed', might have been more appropriate than 'It will be a new and exciting model of provision. Do you share my commendation of your minister for introducing this new model of care to Tenby, for forging a true partnership with my community and earning people's respect along the way'.
What partnership?
What respect?
Mrs. Neate seems to dismiss my letter because she does not know me.
I have some advantage there, because although we have not met, I am familiar with her name. Customarily it appears in the local press accompanied by her post, chair of the Tenby and Saundersfoot Labour Party.
Some might wonder why her role in Ms. Gwyther's political party was not mentioned on this occasion - a case of spin by omission?
Ian Williams,
1 Scotsborough View,
Tenby.
