The Tenby and Saundersfoot Lions sponsored Kilgetty U16s had a return visit of Herbrandston, and after to losing them last week were hoping for a reversal of fortunes. Although having lost the previous encounter 3-0, Kilgetty had played well enough to have won and were very confident of making amends.
Kilgetty's confidence was well founded as they took the game to Herbrandston and for the first 15 minutes carved out some excellent chances. Unfortunately, as in the previous fixture, they failed failed to convert any and on their first foray into the Kilgetty half, Herbrandston showed how it should be done with a clinical finish to make it 1-0.
The rest of the half followed a very similar pattern, with Kilgetty playing well, but not scoring, and Herbrandston looking dangerous on the break.
Herbrandston added a second before half-time to take a 2-0 lead into the break, much to the disbelief of the Kilgetty team.
Much to their credit, Kilgetty did not let their heads drop and came out in the second half determined to make amends.
Michael Nicholas made a return for Kilgetty, going in goal for the second half which enabled Adam Hughes to come out and try to impose himself in midfield. This proved successful, but still the elusive goal would not come; it was left to second half substitute Tom Christopher to finally put the ball in the back of the net.
With five minutes left, Kilgetty threw everything at Herbrandston in search of the equaliser and came close, especially a free-kick by Nick Cope, which beat the 'keeper, but also scraped over the crossbar.
With Kilgetty putting so much into attack, it left them short at the back and Herbrandston took advantage by putting away a third with what turned out to be the last kick of the game.
Although playing some good football, Kilgetty will have be more clinical up front if they want to return to winning ways.
