Sir,
Re. Meyrick Brown’s column in your August 18 edition. His idea of young people and purchasing housing is rather misguided and estate agents jargon unreliable to pin ideals on.
The main reason young people cannot buy a home is the difficulty obtaining a large deposit to access a mortgage. Many are in rented accommodation and whilst paying for that and the bills cannot save such a daunting amount.
He quotes them not wanting to buy properties of prices around £160,000 - a deposit for this could be... £16,000. I rest my case.
