On Sunday, April 17, Miranda Barrett (nee Rees), of Tenby, will be running the Virgin London Marathon for the British Heart Foundation - but first she needs to raise a minimum of £2,000.
Miranda (pictured) decided to enter the marathon for two reasons; to push herself to the limits and do something different, and also to do something in memory of her nana, Sybil Morris, who died in August 2009, from sudden heart failure.
Said Miranda: "It was four weeks before my wedding and only four months before her first great-grandchild was due.
"The British Heart Foundation seemed the obvious charity to raise money for as they are 100 per cent committed to preventing heart disease devastating people's lives. They conduct pioneering research to identify the key causes of heart disease and to create solutions. They help patients recover from heart attacks or surgery. And they help to educate communities on how to help prevent heart disease."
She continued: "I am the kind of person that quivers with fear at the thought of physical exercise, much less running 26.2 miles! But I am determined to get across the finish line whatever it takes, whether it be jogging, walking, crawling or even getting a piggy-back from Richard Branson!"
Miranda is asking local businesses, groups and individuals if they would like to make a donation, no matter how big or small, to help her not only achieve her target of £2,000, but to go above and beyond that.
You can either sponsor her through her fund-raising page which can be found at http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/MirandaBarrett">www.virginmoneygiving.com/MirandaBarrett or you can send her a cheque, made payable to the British Heart Foundation, along with your details.
Miranda, who is a well-known local musician herself, has organised a fund-raising concert to take place on Friday, March 25, 7.30 pm, at St. Mary's Church, Tenby, which will feature some of the finest musicians in Pembrokeshire (further details have yet to be arranged).
She added: "Thank you in advance for your generosity; it means a lot to me."
Miranda can be contacted on 07979 662124 or via email at [email protected]">[email protected]
