Sir,
An old song comes to mind; it started 'What a difference a day makes'. It now appears that given a few more days and miracles are possible.
A week ago in the Tenby Observer 'Gleanings' one could read a report of a meeting held by the Tenby and Saundersfoot branch of the Labour Party. It appeared that there could well be a problem - the natives were restless, wanted a very specific hospital and it would be as well if the branch found out what it was all about. Urgent letters would be sent immediately through the chair to all and sundry in the hierarchy.
That branch now tells us in the February 7 issue that we have nothing to worry about. They knew all along that an outline business case in respect of our hospital had been fully discussed by the Assembly last October - the graft by the Friends over many years had not been fruitless. They knew all along that the money available was not £10 million or £8 million, but was £3.8 million.
But for what? We would be grateful if Mollie Neate would take us by the hand through the contents of her statement. Please show us where it says 'Yes, you are assured of the hospital you want' and that 'a suitable and sufficiently large site has been earmarked in the neighbourhood'.
I am sure that members and their very many supporters, even me, are so thick between the ears that we permanently misunderstand political niceties. Our problems, according to the statement, are self-inflicted. Our best friends throughout have been the Health Trust, our members, Gwyther and Ainger, all colours of politicians (local and national), Uncle Tom Cobley and all. We have not approached the right people, we have not sought the true position at the right places - above all, we haven't sent 500 letters to Jane Hutt, whoever that may be.
Please, Mollie, start again. Your initial statement hasn't even scratched the surface, more to the point it demeans our intelligence.
In the same issue of Tenby Observer was a letter from Mr. A. L. Wales - that letter I commend to all readers.
