Community sports champion Matthew ‘Minty’ Lamb is on course to raise his target sum of £1,000 for Children in Need after embarking on gruelling midnight hike.

A senior finance officer with Pembrokeshire County Council, Matthew set out at midnight Thursday on a 48.5 miles triangular hike between County Hall in Haverfordwest, St Davids and Fishguard before finishing the trek back at County Hall on Friday afternoon.

Matthew is no stranger to fundraising after having his legs waxed for the charity in 2014 before walking from his home town of Fishguard to work last year.

He was joined at various stretches of the walk by colleagues Alistair Birch and Huw Jones.

Seasoned fundraiser Matthew is also an award winning football coach having been crowned Club Organiser of the Year at the 2015 Pembrokeshire Sports Awards and more recently he was honoured at the FAW Community Awards in Cardiff City Stadium.

He coaches Fishguard girls’ teams and set up a disability team which trains weekly and competes at various tournaments throughout South Wales.

His dedication to grassroots sport and seen him shortlisted for the BBC Cymru Wales Sports Awards to be held on Monday, December 5 in Cardiff.
