Sir, My son goes to Penally School, so I read with interest your article 'Penally Parents Should Be Heard' (Observer, February 3). Clr. Mike Evans suggests that parents should write to the council with their views, but will the council bother to listen? I think not. On December 5, 2005, I wrote personal letters to all 14 councillors and hand delivered them to County Hall. Only three councillors bothered to reply. The fact is that the council made up their minds at least two years ago to close the school and have been running it down ever since and they do not want to listen to anyone whose views do not coincide with their own. They make all the right noises about having our children's best interests at heart, but will be content when they have to attend schools in Tenby that are already full. (Drive up Heywood Lane or Greenhill at 8.55 any morning and you'll know what I mean). Those children in Penally whose parents do not have cars will have to walk two miles each way to school. How does this serve the children's best interests?
Mrs. C. Rhys Davies, Tenby.
