BYNEA 8 pts.
PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 36
The Quins pulled off a deserved victory over basement side Bynea over the weekend, collecting their third successive bonus point win in a row.
Pembroke Dock were soon on the attack after Bynea had missed an early shot at goal, when winger Liam Smith rounded his opposite number to finish off a fine threequarter move to put the visitors in the lead.
Neil Brace failed to add the extra points, missing the conversion from wide out.
The Quins pack were well on top, monopolising territory and possession, but the Bynea defence held firm, turning the Quins over on numerous occasions.
It was not until five minutes before half-time that the Quins really asserted themselves with two quickfire tries.
First, number eight Gareth Scourfield picked up from a five-yard scrum to feed scrum-half Dai Rees, who sent Smith over for his second try.
Brace, as he seems to do quite regularly this season, kicked the touchline conversion.
Straight from the re-start , fullback Paul Jonkers counter-attacked from his own 25, before linking up with Sam Irwin and Stuart Hay, who sent winger Lewis Beecher streaking up the touchline for a fine try. This time Brace missed the conversion.
Bynea eventually got on the scoresheet when outside-half Luke Rees kicked a penalty with the last kick of the first half, but the visitors went in at the break 17-3 in front and reasonably satisfied.
The second half started with a bang when Smith picked up a loose kick on his own 10-yard line, before linking up with the the pack on the 25, and they drove sraight up the middle, ending in a try for flanker David Manning under the posts, which was converted by Brace.
Bynea, after a rare visit into the Quins' 25, forced second row Eddie Davies over for what turned out to be a consolation score for the home side. Rees missed the conversion.
The Quins, however, ended with two more tries from Manning and Lewis Beecher with the last move of the match, ably converted by Brace, to send the visitors home fairly happy.
So, after four wins in a row, the visit of second-placed Swansea Uplands should provide a stern test tomorrow (Saturday) for Pembroke Dock.
