The scene is set for Saundersfoot's sizzling Midsummer Madness Week which takes place from Monday, June 19 until Sunday, June 25. Sponsored by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, there is a packed summer extravaganza of events for all the family to enjoy, organised by local organisations and charities.

Sponsorship of the Regency Hall, where many of the events will be staged, has been funded by the Chamber for Tourism, enabling local charities and organisations to have the full proceeds.

The festivities kick-off on Monday, June 19, with a coffee morning with stalls at the Regency Hall in aid of Cancer Research UK, between 10 am and 2 pm. In the evening, there will be a grand concert at the Regency Hall with the popular Griffon Choir and talented Saundersfoot School musicians, organised by Tenby and District Soroptimists. The concert begins at 7.30 pm and admission is £5, £3 concessions.

Tuesday sees fun bingo organised by the Sports and Scoial Club at the Regency Hall, with eyes down at 7.30 pm, while on Wednesday, there will be chance to get the brainbox working with a quiz in aid of the NSPCC. To be held at the Regency Hall, the quiz begins at 7.30 pm and is open to teams of four at £10 per table.

There's a busy day planned for Thursday. The Country Market will be at the Captain's Table, selling cakes, produce and crafts, between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm.

In the afternoon, there will be a tea dance at the Regency Hall from 2.30 until 5 pm, while Saundersfoot and St. Issell's WIs are holding a strawberry cream tea in the Sun Lounge at the Regency Hall from 3 to 5 pm. Cost £3.

In the evening, there is a Fashion Show by T. P. Hughes and Jago, with hair by Ocean Hair (see separate report). The event is being organised by the Mothers' Union, St. Issell's Church, and tickets are £8, to include a glass of wine.

Friday heralds a Summer Ball, with Symphony Sid and the Swing Kings, organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism. There will be local support artists for the event, which takes place at the Regency Hall and begins at 8 pm. Tickets are £6, to include a complimentary drink. Everyone attending is asked to wear something red. Limited tickets are available from Frosts Hardware, Philly's, The Strand Antiques, and Saundersfoot TIC.

On Saturday (not Sunday as advertised on the posters), lady bowlers from all over the county will be converging on the Saundersfoot green for the county rinks competition. There promises to be a feast of bowling throughout the day. Action begins at 10 am and there will be light refreshments served.

Elsewhere, the Guides, Brownies and Rainbows are holding a Fun Day at the Regency Hall from 2 pm onwards, the highlight of which will be the Midsummer Masquerade Disco from 7 to 9 pm, which includes the exciting Sports and Celebs raffle.

As reported by the Observer recently, over the last few weeks, the Guides have been keeping the local postman busy writing to all their favourite sports stars and celebrities.

"We are running a raffle, but not just any raffle. The prizes are just amazing," said Sam Attwell.

Her fellow Guides Polly and Heather continued: "We have exclusive items such as signed photos from Gavin Henson, the Ospreys, Konnie from Blue Peter and cast members from Eastenders. Several premiership football teams, including Liverpool, have also donated items, as well as the cast of Emmerdale, and David Tennant, who plays the current Dr. Who; in fact, too many to mention.

"We have even had a letter from 10 Downing Street enclosing a raffle item," added Kate.

Meanwhile, also on Saturday afternoon at The Harbour, there will be a fresh mackerel barbecue with entertainment and Father Christmas on holiday. Organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, the fun starts at 11 am until 3 pm.

The summer spectacular draws to a close on Sunday, June 25, with a Beetle Drive Picnic Tea, organised by Saundersfoot School, at the Regency Hall, between 2 and 5 pm.

All in all, it adds up to an action-packed week for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss it!
