Whilst most people are still thawing out from this year’s Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim and revelling in the glory that they took part in the record-breaking festive event, one well-known Saundersfoot resident is already planning for his 2019 swim.
St. Issell’s Church parishioner Mick Booth has volunteered to take a dip on January 1 next year in aid of church funds.
This will be Mick Booth’s 18th swim and he is known for his wonderful fancy dress costumes.
Mick’s aim is to collect more sponsors than ever and is looking to find one person for every day of the year. So far he has had 58 people offer to sponsor him.
“Mick is fundraising for a choir and music project which we have been trying to get off the ground,” said church member Helen Perrett.
“We are looking to raise enough money to purchase mobile musical equipment which we can use not only in church, but also take out into the community. We are going to buy a mobile digital piano with amp and all the other equipment needed to make this project possible. Many of the anthems that the choir sing are written for piano and this equipment would enhance the musical worship in the church.
“It would also be used at weddings and in the future we would like to arrange a music festival, so the new equipment would be well used. Why not pop into the church if you are passing and see our display and pick up a sponsor form?”
After a busy Christmas, St. Issell’s is looking forward to 2018 and the start of a new fundraising year.
Continued Helen: “There are a few projects ahead of us and the first of these is a pub quiz night on Friday, March 9, between 7 and 9 pm. This is to be held in the Regency Hall and we are hoping that the community will come out in force to support us and enter teams at a cost of £10 per team. This will be a fun night for people of all ages and we are asking people to bring a plate of food for a bring and share supper. Hot drinks will be provided, but drinks of other kinds are welcome to be brought along. If you would like to enter a team, please contact the church via our Facebook page or pick up an entry form from inside the church.”
Services for the forthcoming week are: Sunday at 10.30 am Sung Eucharist, followed at 3 pm by our Healing Service, which is a quiet contemplative time.
