Talented local baker Michelle Evans-Fecci raised over £900 thanks to people attending her Macmillan Big Coffee Morning on Saturday.
New Hedges Village Hall was packed with people enjoying coffee and a chat, but the main attraction of the morning had to be the cakes!
“I’ve always loved baking with my mum as a young child, and have enjoyed experimenting with flavours and bakes as I’ve got older. After applying for the Great British Bake Off in 2015, and getting down to the final 50 from 13,000 applicants, I had the confidence to bake for a crowd and held my first Macmillan coffee morning later that year which raised £1,010,” said Michelle.
Following last year’s success, Michelle decided to run another Macmillan Coffee Morning. She spent two days baking 32 whole cakes and 250 cupcakes, which included lavender and lemon, Passion Fruit Torte, Malt cake, Raspberry and Rosewater, fig coffee and hazelnut and more!
The best thing was, as well as the cakes including Fairtrade ingredients, they tasted even better than they looked, and all for a great cause.
“We raised £908 this year. This wouldn’t have been possible without my friends and family helping on the day and all the people who came to support. We all know someone who has/has had cancer, so there’s nothing better than raising much-needed funds for Macmillan to help people in the future.”
Known on Facebook as ‘The Girl Who Loves To Bake’, Michelle’s passion for baking, raising almost £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, is helping to make a huge difference.
“Big thanks to all who helped organise the Macmillan coffee morning. Michelle put in so much effort. I can honestly say these are the best cakes I’ve tasted, such a choice I had to buy two boxes!” said Sharron Hardwick.
The general consensus was: Michelle’s cakes are amazing!
