Before the Christmas break, members of the Steps2Health walking group, set off for some festive strolls around the locality...
Thursday brought improbably marvellous weather for the Nordic walk.
As 12 Nordic walkers met at Templeton airfield, the sky was a clear blue bowl, with glorious sunshine and no wind.
The temperature was still freezing, so all the bushes were covered in spectacular frost growths.
Paul set a brisk pace across the airfield, so the walkers had warmed up nicely when they reached Peter’s Finger.
The group continued on up the hill to Narberth Mountain, then turned right to the top of Templeton.
After a short coffee break, they continued along West Lane, enjoying the sunny views across the airfield. They were soon back at the top of Finger Lane to return to the airfield.
This time they took the longer public path across the airfield to return to the start. Then it was off to the Boar’s Head, where Sheila was waiting, for a post-walk lunch. A grand end to a grand walk, made all the better by the fabulous sunshine.
On Saturday, after overnight rain, the frost and ice had all gone, but it was still chilly at 5°C with a cold stiff breeze. 29 walkers gathered at Battery Gardens, wearing their Santa hats, for the last Saturday walk of the year.
Barbara backed by Brian, led the Speedies along the Esplanade, then through Belmont Arch and along the Paragon, heading for the harbour. Donna supported by Pat, was at the head of the smaller Steadies group as they followed along behind.
When the Steadies reached Sergeant's Lane, they turned down to the harbour, while the Speedies did a lap around Castle Hill. The Steadies went up the North Beach zigzag, then on to the finish, while the Speedies walked across the beach to North Cliff and back. Both groups finished at Tenby Scout and Guide Hall, for coffee and mince pies.
This was a fundraiser for the maintenance of the hall (and heating bills), held by the Trefoil Guild, with the guides doing the waiting. It was a lovely end to a year of very social walking.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’s walking to all readers.
Steps2Health are taking a break for the festive season, so the next Nordic walk will be on Thursday, January 5 and the next Saturday walk on January 7.
