Pembrokeshire Men's Hockey Club played a friendly game against Neath on Saturday and took a team with a mix of youth and experience.

From the start, Pembs. were in the Neath circle and Phil Lewis scored within the first three minutes.

Pembs. continued to dominate, but a break from deep within the Neath half saw a shot on goal from the home side's veteran striker Martin Price palmed away by the outstretched hand of 'keeper Jason Keniford.

With Neath coming back into the game, the play see-sawed from end to end. Keniford made several excellent saves, but a shot from the side of the circle from the Neath winger finally beat him to bring the scores level at 1-1.

Pembs. went back on the attack and managed a further goal from left-half Tom Colley, flicking the ball over the outstretched 'keeper who had just saved a strike from the top of the circle by Steve Kendrick.

In a game where many of the players were playing out of position, Minney, Ferguson and Wheeler were under constant pressure from the Neath forwards, while the midfield of Kendrick, Stear and Colley enjoyed most of the possession in midfield, giving youngsters Tom Ferguson and Phil Lewis a constant flow of ball for them to link with centre forward Jon Moore.

Neath were to come back in the second half to equalise through Martin Price, only for Pembs. to go 3-2 up through a Stear shot on goal from a penalty corner.

Neath's third came from another Price strike from the top of the circle. However, Pembs. won the game at the death from a strike from Stear which was almost stolen off him on the line by Tom Ferguson, giving the visitors a 4-3 victory.
