A meeting was held in the De Valence Pavilion, Tenby, on Tuesday, to discuss the Hywel Dda Health Board's proposals to close Tenby and South Pembs. Minor Injuries Units.

The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Trevor Hallett, welcomed everyone to the meeting, with apologies received from MP Simon Hart and AMs, who unfortunately had business in Westminster and the Senedd.

However, all pledged their support for the town council and South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN) and town council's campaign to prevent the closure of the MIUs in question.

The Hywel Dda Health Board had declined an invitation to attend.

Amongst those present were county councillors and members of the local community from throughout South East Pembrokeshire, along with the Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Clr. Peter Kraus, and councillors from Pembroke.

There was a strong feeling that the fight to maintain the Minor Injuries Units at Tenby and South Pembs. Hospital must continue, with many in attendance enthusiastically volunteering to distribute and collect the Health Board's consultation questionnaires around Tenby and the South East Pembrokeshire area.

Those present were pleased that both Tenby and Saundersfoot GP practices had replied to the request for their view.

Both practices indicated that they shared the concerns of the local population and were seeking meetings with the Health Board.

Mr. Mansell Thomas, chair of the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network, gave a detailed response to the proposed closure of the Tenby MIU.

Amongst the points raised was that the Hywel Dda Health Board had failed to consider public opinion and that there was a total lack of flexibility in the board's planning.

He also felt that the proposed new system would result in additional costs, and not bring about savings.

Anyone who was unable to attend and would like a copy of the consultation questionnaire to answer, or to deliver to their street, can collect from either the De Valence Pavilion or Tenby Library.
