The Rotary Club of Tenby's Annual Mediaeval Fayre, held once again with kind permission at the magnificent venue of Manorbier Castle, proved to be an enormous success this year.

Happily, the club was blessed with dry weather for the festivities during what was an otherwise wet week.

The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Caroline Thomas, opened the fayre, accompanied by her mace bearers, John Morgan and Robin Scanlon, and her husband and town crier, Mr. John Thomas. It was Mr. Scanlon's first official duty as mace bearer since taking over from Mr. Eric Dorling.

The attractions on offer included the Tenby Brass Band, The Rainkings, Jugglestruck, and the Collegiate of Knights Templar, all of whom thoroughly entertained the appreciative crowd.

A welcome surprise was the visit by a Sea King Mark 4 helicopter from the 846 Naval Squadron, based at the Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovilton in Somerset. The helicopter and crew were training at the Castlemartin Range, prior to an imminent deployment to the Middle East.

Club members are very grateful to the Navy that the crew were able to find time in their busy schedule to fly over and circle the castle, giving everyone such a close glimpse of one of their aircraft.

In addition, the many stalls manned by Tenby Rotarians, their friends and families, and the ever-popular Welsh cakes, cooked by ladies of the Inner Wheel Club of Tenby ensured that no one went home unhappy.

Also a welcome visitor was Rotary District 1150 (South Wales) District Governor Howard Griffiths and his wife Ros, of Saundersfoot.

President Don Ramsay said: "The club would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the evening, particularly everyone at Manorbier Castle, for once again allowing the magnificent setting to be used for such a worthy cause. Money raised at the event will be used to support Rotary charities, locally, nationally, and internationally."
