Volunteers helping to brighten up the town's railway station have been thanked by the Tenby in Bloom committee this week for their hard work. The Yorkshire Building Society have also been thanked for their generous sponsorship.

Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who is chairman of the Bloom committee, said that a scheme at the station where local B and B owners were sharing the watering of the plants at the facility, was working well and put the town in good stead for the International in Bloom competition.

Clr. Mrs. Lane said that she was looking for someone to volunteer with regular plant and flower watering at Battery Gardens, with Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown suggesting that residents in Church Park or Queens Parade might like to help out.

Clr. Mrs. Trish Rossiter put a reminder out that the weeding club was still taking place every Sunday between 10 am and 12 noon, and that they were still tackling the cemetery area.

With a new portfolio supplement produced showcasing all the work that Tenby in Bloom puts in for the town and into the competitions they enter, Clr. Mrs. Lane said that it would be nice to send one to Major John Evans who started the floral scheme many years ago.

"Major Evans who has now reached the age of 98 is still one of our biggest supporters and hasn't stopped doing work for us," she said.

"He's very graciously donated £50 to the cause, so I think he'd appreciate a portfolio being sent to him," added Clr. Mrs. Lane.
