It was a case of 'musical chairs' for outgoing Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees, and her deputy, Clr. Eric Feetham, this week.

At the town council's annual general meeting on Tuesday night, Clr. Feetham was installed as the new First Citizen, while Clr. Mrs. Rees was appointed as his deputy.

Clr. Feetham, of Springfield Park, will be no stranger to the job, as he has served as Mayor on four previous occasions.

Clr. Feetham's appointment was proposed by Clr. Mrs. Rees and seconded by Clr. Brian Harries, while Clr. Mrs. Rees was proposed by Clr. Henry Langen and seconded by Clr. Wynne Evans for the post of his deputy.

Born and brought up in Llawhaden, Clr. Feetham, a retired businessman, first joined the Urban District Council in 1968, before taking his seat on the Town Council when it was formed in 1972.

Married to Doris for 50 years, Clr. Feetham also represented Narberth on South Pembrokeshire District Council for 13 years and was honoured to be chairman in 1984/85.

Chairman of both Narberth Enhancement Committee and Narberth in Bloom, Clr. Feetham is involved in various organisations within town, including the Queen's Hall management committee, PLANED (formerly SPARC) and Civic Week.

Clr. Feetham appointed his wife Doris as Mayoress and the Rector of Narberth, Rev. Alan Chiplin, as his chaplain.

However, before handing over the Mayor's chain, Clr. Mrs. Rees, reflected on her 12 months in office.

She said she had enjoyed the year and thanked everyone who had supported her, including her council colleagues, Rev. Alan Chiplin and Chris Rees for his help with the Civic Service.

In response, Clr. Colin Williams congratulated Clr. Mrs. Rees on the way she had handled the post. He said it had been a pleasure to work with her and thanked her for representing the town during the year.

His comments were echoed by Clr. Feetham who also thanked Clr. Mrs. Rees for the hard work she had put into the job.

In accepting the chain of office, Clr. Feetham thanked his fellow councillors for electing him and he said he hoped they would give him their full support.

Councillors also agreed at their meeting on Tuesday an increase in the Mayor's allowance to £1,000.
