Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, used her casting vote to pass a parking plan for the town's South Parade. Before members of the town council when they met on Tuesday night was an application for the introduction of parking on the west side of South Parade, opposite the Five Arches. The proposal, submitted by Pembrokeshire County Council, was for a 16-metre length of limited waiting of 30 minutes between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm on each side of the access to the Convent. The county council felt the parking would be of benefit to the shops to the north of the bays and those in St. George Street. Clr. Damian Brown was in agreement with the county's views and proposed the council offer no objection to the plan. He was seconded by the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane. However, Clr. John Griffiths objected and said he felt the area was already a 'bottleneck' and the introduction of parking at the location would cause further congestion with possible problems for the emergency services. Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter, agreed. "It is already a nightmare there," she said. With only four members of the council present, the casting vote went to Clr. Mrs. Lane, who voted in favour of Clr. Brown's proposal.
