Tenby's forthcoming Mayor-making ceremony will make it a fourth term in office for one of the town's best known councillors.

At Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Clr. Trevor Hallett was unanimously voted in by his colleagues to don the scarlet robes of office for the second year running, with Clr. Lawrence Blackhall proposing his fellow member and Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown seconding the proposal, remarking that the Mayor-elect was the "best ambassador for the town."

Clr. Hallett, who first took on the role back in 1996 and returned as Mayor in 2006, before takling the hot seat again last year, has been a member of the town council since 1987.

He told his fellow members that he would do his best to carry on the traditions of the town during his next year in office, and also gave his thanks to three colleagues who would no longer sit on the town council - Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans, Clr. Mrs. Sandra Williams and Clr. David Morgan, who had not put their names forward to be re-elected to the next council.

"Thanks go to all the councillors who are departing, they will be difficult to replace, and I hope that the people who come in show the same passion for the town that they have done and have Tenby at heart," he said.

Departing member, Clr. Mrs. Evans, who had also served as Mayor in 2010, thanked Clr. Hallett for his kind words and Clr. Mrs. Williams who had been her deputy during her year in office.

"It's been an interesting experience serving on the town council and my year as Mayor of Tenby is something that I'll never forget," she said.
