The Mayor of Tenby paid tribute to the late John Thomas at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, saying that everyone on the council would miss the "big heart and voice" of the former town crier.
Before members stood for a moment's silence in remembrance of "a great character and friend", Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans, gave her deepest sympathies to John's wife, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, and all of the family, after he passed away, aged 72, on Saturday, February 19.
"John gave his services to this council for over 30 years and carried out his civic duties with great pride and devotion, even in his failing health," said Clr. Mrs. Evans.
"He was a tremendous ambassador for our town and put Tenby on the map with his performance as town crier. He was not only well respected amongst the Guild of Town Criers, but also by his many friends locally, nationally and indeed internationally.
"We will all miss John's big heart and big voice and thank him not only for his services to this town, but for his kindness and friendship," she said.
