A group of young people from Pembroke Dock's Go4It! scheme are riding high after gaining an award for their equine skills.
The 14 teenagers celebrated their success at an event on the lawns of the National Park's Llanion headquarters.
The Mayor of Pembroke Dock, Paul Weatherall, joined the families of many of the young people from the neighbourhood who have achieved the ABRS progressive riding test level 1.
He praised their achievement, before meeting Henrietta, the mare from Pembrokeshire Riding Centre in Hundleton.
Centre manager Sue Scourfield declared the scheme "a brilliant way for young people to learn about animals and the countryside."
The event was also attended by Sue Enfield from the British Horse Society, who also highlighted how the project benefits young people who wouldn't normally get the chance to ride.
The course teaches basic riding techniques, horse- care and yard skills, that are so important to be a successful and safe rider. Many of the young people are now moving on to the next level qualification, while others are concentrating on some of the other activities offered by the innovative Go4It! scheme.
Go4It! is a partnership project led by the National Park which seeks to get local 11 to 25-year-olds more physically active. Horse riding, one of the many activities on offer, is an excellent activity for all-round fitness, as it tones the muscles and reduces stress, tension and depression. It's one of the most enjoyable ways to enjoy the coast and countryside of Britain's only coastal National Park.
