Sir,

Contrary to the recent letters and articles published in the Observer, I for one object strongly to the hunt being invited to Tenby and would like to applaud the current Mayor for her decision, which I am certain echoes the views held by hundreds of people in the local area.

In the 21st century it shouldn't be necessary to explain the reasons for not repealing the hunting ban and objecting to the presence of the hunt.

Incidentally, I am not a 'towny'. I have lived in the countryside most of my life, owned horses and grew up surrounded by farms. When I was a boy, I recognised very few people who took part in local hunts (most came from outside the area).

I am also not opposed to sports such as boxing, where two equally matched opponents compete using their own stamina, skill and strength. I just detest hunting.

I am under no illusion that I can change opinions, but they should be under no illusions that a very large number of people locally strongly dislike what they do and represent, and do not feel they should have the right to celebrate in a public place.

Roger Coombs,
